History of Metaphysical poetry
Literary critic and poet Samuel Johnson first coined the term 'metaphysical poetry' in his book Lives of the most eminent english poet . In the book, Johnson wrote about a group of 17th-century British poets that included John Donne, George Herbert, Richard Crashaw, Andrew Marvell and Henry Vaughan.
Jonn Donn was the first poet to write what was later called metaphysical poetry, but he did not use the term in his own practice.
Metaphysical poets is a label often attached to a loosely connected group of seventeenth-century poets, among whom the central figures are John Donne, George Herbert, Henry Vaughan, Andrew Marvell, and Richard Crashaw.

Who were Metaphysical poets?
There are many poets who are considered as Metaphysical poets but some are considered as major contrbuters in this category. Here are the names of major Metaphysical poets.
John Donne, George Herbert, Andrew Marvell, Abraham cowley, Richard Crashew, Henry Vaughan.

The major characteristics of Metaphysical poetry is conceis, coloquial diction, philosophical exploration,and platonic ideals.

Samuel Johnson the premier english literary figure of the mid and late 18th century, was a writer of excrptional range a poet, a lexicographer, a translator, a journalist and essayist, a travel writer , a biographer and and a critic.
Samuel Johnson defined poery as " poetry is the art of uniting pleazure with truth, by calling imagination to help of reason".
The term " Metaphysical poets " was first coined by Samuel Johnson in a chapter from his "lines of poets" titled "Metaphycal wit ".
