Hello readers! I am a student. I am writing this blog in which i have written about one work of William Wordsworth or S. T. Colridge. This activity is given by Medha ma'am.
In this blog will try to discuss the the colabarative work of Wordsworth and colridge. Entitled "Lyrical ballads ".
This "lyrical ballads " is collaretivaly written by Wordsworth and colridge. It was publish in 1798. Basically it is a collection of the poem . It has 23 poems total . William Wordsworth has written 19 poems and remain 4 written by colridge.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge was an English poet, literary critic, philosopher, and theologian who, with his friend William Wordsworth, was a founder of the Romantic Movement in England and a member of the Lake Poets. He also shared volumes and collaborated with Charles Lamb, Robert Southey, and Charles Lloyd.
William Wordsworth was an English Romantic poet who ,with Coleridge helped to launch the Romantic age in English literature. Wordsworth was called "poet of nature " by Shelly.
Lyrical ballads is a collection of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge first published in 1798 and generally considered to have marked the beginning of the English Romantic period in literature.The immediate effect on critics was modest, but it became and remains a landmark, changing the course of English literature and poery.
The 1800 second edition is famous for the "preface to lyrical ballads " something that has come to be known as the manifesto of Romanticism.
In second edition Wordsworth included some additional poems and preface . Apart from this Wordsworth gives a famous Definition of poetry :
"Poerty is a spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling. "
He also gives a theory that poerty should be written in"The language realy use by men".
Wordsworth maintains that the language of poetry is selection of the real language of men. Coleridge argues that everyone's language varies according to the extent of his knowledge, the activities of his faculties and the depth and quickness of his feelings.
The third edition of "Lyrical ballads " was publish in 1802. In this edition Wordsworth included Appendix titled 'poetic Diction '. And lastly the fourth Edition was publish in 1805.
