Short Stories of R. K. Narayan

Short Stories of R. K. Narayan

Hello learners. I am student. I am writing this blog as a part of thinking activity assigned by Megha ma'am . In this blog i have tried to answer some questions about short story of well known indian english author R. K. Narayan .

Introduction :

R.K. Narayan (Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami) was one of the most celebrated Indian authors writing in English. Born on October 10, 1906, in Chennai, India, Narayan's literary career spanned over six decades, during which he authored numerous novels, short stories, and essays. He is best known for his works set in the fictional South Indian town of Malgudi, which vividly depicted the everyday lives of its residents. Narayan's writing style is characterized by its simplicity, wit, and keen observation of human nature, often highlighting the ironies and subtleties of Indian society.

"An Astrologer's Day," is a compelling tale that explores themes of fate, deception, and irony. The story revolves around an astrologer who makes a living by giving astrological readings on a busy street in Malgudi. His seemingly routine day takes an unexpected turn when he encounters a man seeking answers about his past.

As the story unfolds, it reveals the astrologer's own secrets and the surprising connections between his past and the stranger's inquiries. Through this narrative, Narayan masterfully weaves a plot that underscores the unpredictability of life and the complexities of human experience.

          An Astrologer's Day

How faithful the movie to the original short story.

The movie is faithful to the original short story though have some changes but have accurate character, behavior, setting, atmosphere etc.

After watching the movie have your perception about the short story character and situation changed?

The short and video are almost same. But in the video the situation and atmosphere are visible and clear whereas in reading we have are own understanding and imagination. So both can have little different but no any kind of drifting or massive change.

Do you fell Aesthetic delight while watching the movie?  If yes exactly when did if happen?  If no. Can you explain with reasons?

The story have a kindof gravity whoch lead us to be continued with the short story. Frome first to last we have many upand down. And that is according to me asthetic delight.

Does screening of movie help us to understanding the short story better.

As we all know that our mind can relate and able to imagine frome viewing better in reading . So watching task is useful and also make our work easy.

Was were any particular scene or moment in the story that you think was perfect?

Well in story and even in the movie adaptation almost all the scenes are perfect and well knitted. But as a personal view tje perfect part or scene according to me is when we comes to know the astrologer's past related to that stronger.

It look like how things are continually follow you whether you are aware or not. Are karma always follow us thins climax  scene is perfect in the story as the story is incomplete without it.

If you are director, what changes would you like to make in the remaking of the movie based on the short story.

The short story of Narayan is already perfect and interesting so it didn't need any changes. But if we think to change or remake any scene i would like to change the the revelation scene. This scene can make audience more curious by make deep diolgues and mistry.
